EAGLE

TEAM: EAGLE (ANGLO-AMERICAN RACERS)
NATIONALITY: USA
INCEPTION: 1966-1968
COMMENT: Anglo American Racers was a Formula One and Champ Car constructor from the USA owned by Dan Gurney and run from the Weslake factory at Rye. They participated in 25 Grands Prix, entering a total of 34 cars. The team was the Formula One arm of All American Racers, an organisation established in Santa Ana, California in 1964, by Dan Gurney, to run sportscars for him to drive in the United States between his Formula 1 commitments with the Brabham team. In that same year, Carroll Shelby, who was running Goodyear tires on his Cobra sportscars, introduced Gurney to the tiremaker because Goodyear wanted to take on Firestone at the Indianapolis 500. Gurney, responsible for bringing Colin Chapman and Lotus to Indianapolis, fielded an AAR Lotus 38 in the 1965 Indianapolis 500. A deal was struck and work began on an IndyCar for 1966. Gurney hired Len Terry, the designer of the Indianapolis-winning Lotus in 1965 and he laid out a mid-engined chassis, baptized Eagle, which would serve for both Formula 1 and Indycar racing. The result was the Eagle-Ford T2G for the US and the Eagle T1G for Formula 1.

While making an attempt to qualify for the 1967 Indy 500, Ginther decided he’d had enough and walked away from racing. Ginther broke a fuel line in his Indy All-American Eagle which sprayed a mix of ethanol and gasoline down his back. This experience, along with the memory of being burned earlier, led to his sudden retirement. He participated in a rally with sixty-five other competitors, including actor James Garner, in June 1969. The California Sports Car Club event was three hours cross country from Los Angeles to Huntington Beach. It benefited students from the Braille Institute. Ginther managed a Porsche 911-s with two American drivers during the 39th 24 hours of Le Mans, in June 1971. EIFELLAND

TEAM: EIFELLAND
NATIONALITY: D
INCEPTION: 1972-1972
COMMENT: Eifelland was a German Formula One team, named after German caravan manufacturer Eifelland based in Germany's Eifel mountains. Eifelland only participated in FIA Formula One World Championship in the 1972 Formula One season. Their driver was German Rolf Stommelen. The car was based on a March 721 Formula One car, redesigned by German designer Luigi Colani in his typical rounded
aerodynamical style. The car featured an air intake in front of the driver, with the air being guided around the cockpit to the engine. A single rear view mirror was mounted right before the driver. Problems with cooling etc. forced the team to replace some of Colani's designs with the regular parts from March.

ENSIGN RACING

TEAM: ENSIGN RACING
NATIONALITY: GB
INCEPTION: 1973-1982
COMMENT: They participated in 133 grands prix, entering a total of 155 cars. Ensign scored 19 championship points and no podium finish. The best result was a 4th place at the 1981 Brazilian Grand Prix by Marc Surer. The team was founded by Morris Nunn who also carried out design duties during the first two seasons of the team's existence. Nunn would later go on to be a prominent chief engineer in the American-based Champ Car series, winning championships with drivers Alex Zanardi and Juan Pablo Montoya in the late 1990s. After the end of the 1982 season, Ensign was merged into the Theodore team, which it had previous ties to via financier Teddy Yip, and took that team's name. During many seasons, the connection between Ensign and Theodore was so great that in some years they used almost the same car, akin to how Red Bull Racing has a second but separate team called Toro Rosso.

The team was a combination of two outfits - the mechanical manpower and skill of Giampaolo Pavanello's Euroracing team, who had also ran the Alfa Romeo Formula One team in 1984-85, and the financial muscle and organisational skill of Swiss Walter Brun, who ran the Brun Motorsport sports car team. Despite failing to start a single race in 1989, the team returned in 1990 with two cars once again. After 14 rounds, the team withdrew from the Formula One Championship, having made only 21 starts from 76 entries.
