Red Bull Racing had a quiet start, with Sebastian Vettel second and Mark Webber fourth in the opening session, completing just 36 laps between them. Mark had a spin that knocked the front wing from his RB7 late in the session, but was able to return to the garage unaided. In the afternoon Mark set the fourth quickest time and Seb the fifth, with Lewis Hamilton quickest in both practices.

Bruno Senna replaced Nick Heidfeld in the morning for his first practice in the Lotus Renault GP chassis. The Brazilian got 25 laps under his belt and the 15th quickest time, with Vitaly Petrov P10. Nick returned to the cockpit for the afternoon, condensing his programme into the 90 minutes. He ended the day in 14th, with Vitaly 17th.

Team Lotus used the day to test further aero items and an improved power steering system for Jarno Trulli. The day proved productive, with 124 laps completed. Heikki was 19th quickest with Jarno 20th in the morning, and then the other way round in the afternoon.
